New GROW app: Plants database

General Discussion

Having just learned via this Facebook post that the long-awaited GROW app has been released, i immediately downloaded the software and opened up the Plants Database feature, to see what i could find.

It asked if it could access my location; i said "Yes, when the app is running," and after a brief pause the software said "At this time of year, it seems no plants from our database can be easily and successfully grown at your location!"

Can it be that this database does not have cabbage or broccoli or zucchini or any of the many other things that are now growing in our market garden? Or is it rather the case that this database not know that in Algarve province of Portugal, you can grow all sorts of food essentially all year round?

Hi Walt, I gather you have been talking to us on FB about the Share My Planting (Edible Plant Database) which has collected the planting and harvesting dates for 12 regions of Europe (Algarve being part of Mediterranean South). We have checked the data submitted and there should be all the crops, as well as chilli, garlic, ginger, marrow, onion, potatoes and many more for this region. We have passed your feedback to the app developers and hopefully they can find a solution. It is working well in our locations but we will monitor to see if anyone else is having difficulty. You can still join the GROW Observatory Share My Planting Calendars Facebook page of course https://www.facebook.com/groups/1946906195352736/ Thanks for feeding back.
